How to set delivery fees for a small online shop
Delivery is a real cost. A clear fee that customers see before they order avoids arguments later.
- 1
Know what a delivery costs you
Add up the fuel or courier cost, the packaging and the time. This is the number your fee has to cover, or you accept losing some of it on purpose.
- 2
Start with a flat fee
One fee for every delivery is the simplest to explain. It works well when most customers live close to you.
- 3
Charge by area when distance matters
If some customers are much further away, set a fee for each area, such as your city, nearby towns and the rest of the country.
- 4
Set a minimum order
A minimum order keeps small deliveries from costing more than they earn.
- 5
Offer free delivery over an amount
Free delivery above a certain total encourages bigger orders. Pick an amount a little above your average order.
