How to write item descriptions that sell
A good description answers a customer's question before they ask it. You do not need to be a writer.
- 1
Start with a clear name
Say what the item is, in the words customers use. "Chocolate cake" beats "Our signature indulgence".
- 2
Answer the usual questions
Think of the messages you get most, and answer them in the description.
- Size, weight or how long it takes
- What it is made of
- What is included, and what is not
- 3
Keep it short
Two or three short lines are usually enough. Put longer details, such as specifications or ingredients, in their own fields so the page stays easy to scan.
- 4
Use good pictures
A clear, bright photo does more than a paragraph. Show the item from the front, then a detail or it in use.
- 5
Be honest
Say what the item is and is not. Honest descriptions mean fewer returns and happier customers who come back.
Questions
Two or three short lines. Use the details fields for specifications, ingredients and care instructions.
